Patient Pricing Information

At ChristianaCare, Union Hospital, we are committed to providing affordable, high-quality care that is valued by the neighbors we serve. We are proud to make the pricing for our services available. In order to be as transparent as possible regarding our prices and to comply with the various price transparency regulatory requirements, we have included two separate views of our prices. The first are services that the Center for Medicare and Medicaid Services (CMS) requires providers to publish which is the pricing for 300 shoppable services.  Some of the 300 services are named by CMS and others are considered shoppable services by ChristianaCare, Union Hospital because they are high volume services provided by our hospital. The other view/download is available by selecting the CMS Transparency icon located in the lower left hand corner of the Healthcare Price Transparency page which reflects the hospital’s full chargemaster. It is important to note the differences between these two.  The 300 shoppable services procedure pricing will often include charges for multiple chargemaster services, and therefore will not be comparable to any single chargemaster item. The common procedure pricing aims to more accurately reflect what a patient’s bill could look like for the listed procedures. Our Customer Service Department is happy to assist you with additional information specific to your needs. Our team is available Monday through Friday from 8:00 am to 4:30 pm at 410-392-7033 to answer your questions and assist with quotes.

CMS Price Transparency

In Maryland, the average prices for hospital services are regulated by the Maryland Health Services Cost Review Commission (HSCRC)  The HSCRC sets average hospital prices based on Maryland’s unique all-payer rate-setting system for hospital services.  With Maryland’s unique all-payer rate-setting system for hospital services all-payers (Insurance, Cash) all are charged the same price for services.  Hospitals outside of Maryland are not restricted by regulation in setting their charges. These hospitals use market information and competitive pricing tools to set rates for services.

Information to keep in mind:

  • Hospital charges posted on this site do not include charges for physician services, often called professional fees, which are separate from the hospital bill. You may receive bills from multiple physicians for their services, including the anesthesiologist, hospitalist, pathologist, radiologist, cardiologist, emergency room physician and other specialists who participate in your care. If you have questions regarding their bill for services, please contact the individual provider.
  • Hospital approved rates generally reflect the average price of a group of similar services. Individual service charges are components of the larger group average, and therefore may vary from the price set by the HSCRC.
  • Even though the HSCRC sets hospital prices by a certain date, hospital charges can change during the year. Charges on individual hospital bills may be different from the charges posted here. This is both allowable and normal, as hospitals adjust charges frequently to comply with other regulations.
  • Individual charges that the patient is responsible for will vary based on insurance provider and insurance plan.
