Our Family Birth Center at Union Hospital reopened in January 2024 after an extensive makeover. The brand-new upgraded unit provides additional space and a welcoming environment for the labor and delivery experience of families in Cecil Country and the surrounding communities.
The 14-bed facility has new spacious maternity suites, and upgraded technology in a contemporary design, providing the perfect setting for welcoming your little bundle of joy.
The warm and inviting environment includes:
- Eight labor and delivery rooms;
- Three postpartum rooms;
- Three private triage rooms;
- A designated obstetrical operating room;
- A tub room to assist with labor;
- A nursery.
ChristianaCare Union Hospital was one of only five hospitals in Maryland that earned a Patient Safety Excellence Award in 2023 from Healthgrades and this new unit will build on this foundation of excellent safety standards with new and improved facilities and technology.
As well as larger rooms that allow for greater privacy for our patients, there are upgrades to our fetal monitoring systems, an improved layout of the center and the lactation office designed with patient and infant care in mind, an additional nursing station for added patient care, as well as improved electronics and new TVs for your comfort.
