The Union Hospital Auxiliary: More Than a Century of Service
Since 1903, the Union Hospital Auxiliary has played a vital role in supporting the hospital and the healthcare needs of our community. One of the organization’s earliest missions was to provide linens for patients, demonstrating a commitment to compassionate care from its very beginning.
In 1907, the Auxiliary conducted its first fundraising campaign, raising money for renovations to the Singerly Mansion, which served as the hospital’s original facility. Over the decades, the Auxiliary has continued this legacy of service and philanthropy, contributing both financial support and countless volunteer hours to advance healthcare in our community.
Today, the Auxiliary operates the hospital Gift Shop, the Good As New Shop thrift store, vendor sales, and vending services. Through these activities and special events, members raise funds that directly benefit patients, caregivers, and hospital programs.
The Auxiliary has been instrumental in funding major building campaigns, renovations, and equipment purchases throughout the hospital’s history. Their support has helped make improvements to areas such as the Chapel, the Behavioral Health Unit, and the Family Birthplace, while also providing funding for essential medical equipment and other patient-centered initiatives.
Beyond the millions of dollars raised, the true impact of the Auxiliary is reflected in the dedication, compassion, and service of its volunteers. Their unwavering commitment has enhanced the experience of patients, families, visitors, and caregivers for more than 120 years.
