A diagnosis of cancer and the challenges of a treatment regimen can lead to distress for the patient, as well as family members and friends.
Oncology social workers are available within the cancer program and can recommend effective ways to manage stress, cope with changes caused by cancer and making health care decisions. Grief counseling is also available to Union Hospital patients and their families.
Social workers can also assist with concerns such as transportation, financial concerns and other common problems.
