Union Hospital now offers a Thoracic Surgery Clinic in collaboration with the University of Maryland Medical School (UMMS). The Thoracic Surgery Division at UMMS is nationally recognized for developing innovative treatments for disorders of the structures and organs of the chest, particularly the lungs and esophagus.

The clinic is held the first and third Wednesdays of each month, from noon to 4 p.m., in the Union Hospital Medical Professional Building, Suite 112, Elkton, MD.

What is thoracic surgery?

Thoracic surgery involves treatment of the lungs and esophagus, as well as the other organs and structures of the chest.

Physicians in the Thoracic Surgery Clinic at Union Hospital treat many common thoracic conditions, including:

  • Cancers: Lung cancer, esophageal cancer, lymphoma, mesothelioma
  • Esophageal disorders: Barrett’s esophagus, reflux disease
  • Other: Lung lesions and nodules, pulmonary nodules and masses, emphysema/bullous disease, myasthenia gravis
