Overview of the Program
The Explorer Post at Union Hospital offers area students, aged 14-21 years, the opportunity to explore the health care field through hands-on activities and meetings with health care professionals.
Past events have included:
- Exploring the Operating Room
- Interactive Imaging
- Exploring the Lab
- A Visit to the Morgue
- Smart Mannequins in the Sim Lab
- Mock Tumor Board
Union Hospital also hosts a number of staff and community events that the Explorers have participated in. These include:
- Race for the Ribbon. Each year the Explorer Post participates as a team in the race (members
are given the option to walk or run). This event is always held on a Saturday morning in October.
- Union Hospital Safety Fair. Gain knowledge of the different aspects of patient safety (ex. fire
safety, patient transfers, quality improvement activities).
- Union Hospital Patient Safety Drill. Held on the nursing floors to simulate patient transfers
during a natural disaster. Drills are usually not announced until one week prior.
- Cecil County Disaster Drill. Simulates a mass trauma situation and resulting patient care
protocols. This event is held in conjunction with Cecil County Department of Emergency Services.
Explorer Post events are mainly held on the Union Hospital campus but we look for opportunity to host events in the community too. To learn more about past and upcoming events please visit our Facebook page at: https://www.facebook.com/UHCCExplorerPost2057.
