The Progressive Care Unit (PCU) at Union Hospital is a 24-bed telemetry unit (10 private, 7 semi private, and 2 negative pressure rooms). The unit is designed to provide specialized care for patients who require continuous telemetry. The patient’s rooms are spacious and equipped with computer stations at the bedside to provide “real time documentation.” A centralized wireless system is set-up throughout the organization, permitting telemetry monitoring to occur throughout the facility 24-hour surveillance is provided by PCU medical professionals (monitor technicians, registered nurses, etc.) educated and trained to respond immediately to any changes in a patient’s heart rhythm. Care is provided to a patient population of 18 and older with a medical diagnosis of: chest pain, stroke, congested heart failure (CHF), chronic obstructive pulmonary disease (COPD), renal failure, diabetes, and any patient with a cardiac history that requires monitoring. All staff are ACLS/BLS certified.
