Pelvic Ultrasound

1. Two hours before the exam, you may empty your bladder (if needed).
2. Drink 36 oz. of liquid (water, juice, decaffeinated coffee or tea – no soda, caffeinated beverages or milk).
3. Finish the 36 oz. one hour before the exam time (This will allow your body to process the fluids and fill your bladder).
4. Do not use the bathroom. Your bladder must be very full for the exam. The exam only takes 5-10 minutes and then you may empty your bladder.

Fetal Ultrasound

1. Two hours before the exam you may empty your bladder, if needed.
2. Start drinking liquid (water, juice, decaffeinated coffee or tea – no soda, caffeinated beverages or milk):

   - 1st or 2nd Trimester: Drink 32-36 oz. of liquid.

   - 3rd Trimester Drink only 20-24 oz. of liquid.

3. Finish the fluid one (1) hour before the exam time (This will allow your body to process the fluids and fill your bladder).
4. Do not use the bathroom. Your bladder must be very full for this exam. There are only a few images we need with a very full bladder. You may use the bathroom after these images if you are very uncomfortable.

    

   Gall Bladder / Liver

   Do not eat or drink anything eight (8) hours before your exam time. (If you are on medication that must be taken, you may take it with a small sip of water)

   Extremity, Venous

   There is no prep for these exams.
