Pelvic Ultrasound
- Two hours before the exam, you may empty your bladder (if needed).
- Drink 36 oz. of liquid (water, juice, decaffeinated coffee or tea – no soda, caffeinated beverages or milk).
- Finish the 36 oz. one hour before the exam time (This will allow your body to process the fluids and fill your bladder).
- Do not use the bathroom. Your bladder must be very full for the exam. The exam only takes 5-10 minutes and then you may empty your bladder.
Fetal Ultrasound
- Two hours before the exam you may empty your bladder, if needed.
- Start drinking liquid (water, juice, decaffeinated coffee or tea – no soda, caffeinated beverages or milk):
- 1st or 2nd Trimester: Drink 32-36 oz. of liquid.
- 3rd Trimester Drink only 20-24 oz. of liquid.
- Finish the fluid one (1) hour before the exam time (This will allow your body to process the fluids and fill your bladder).
- Do not use the bathroom. Your bladder must be very full for this exam. There are only a few images we need with a very full bladder. You may use the bathroom after these images if you are very uncomfortable.
Gall Bladder / Liver
Do not eat or drink anything eight (8) hours before your exam time. (If you are on medication that must be taken, you may take it with a small sip of water)
Extremity, Venous
There is no prep for these exams.
