Union Hospital Names Chief Medical Officer

Cydney T. Teal, MD, has been promoted to chief medical officer (CMO) at Union Hospital. The hospital's first female CMO, Dr. Teal has been a member of the Union Hospital medical staff for 11 years and will work to strengthen relationships between physicians, the hospital and the community.

"Dr. Teal has demonstrated her leadership as a past president of the medical staff and as our medical director of quality," said Union Hospital CEO Kenneth Lewis, MD.  "As her patients will attest, Dr. Teal is passionate about quality, safety and patient-centered care."

As CMO, Dr. Teal's responsibilities include oversight of:

• Quality

• Care/Medical Management

• Infection Prevention

• Medical Staff Services

"My vision is to foster relations between the physicians and the hospital; the physicians and the community; and the hospital and the community," said Dr. Teal. "I want to help educate the community about healthcare, prioritizing wellness and early intervention in disease management."

Dr. Teal is board certified in family practice and internal medicine. She earned her medical degree from the Medical College of Virginia School of Medicine in Richmond, Va., and completed her residency at Alton Ochsner Medical Foundation in New Orleans, La. Dr. Teal is an attending physician at Union Primary Care in Elkton, Maryland, and has been in private practice since 2000.

"My goal is to further Union Hospital's mission to provide safe, reliable, high-quality healthcare to our community," she said.
