Community Benefit Report

At the end of each year, Union Hospital provides a report to the community that explains the connections and impact we make for the people of Cecil County. This report allows us to educate the community on our efforts to improve the health of the community.

Community Health Services – Includes activities carried out to improve community health. Examples include: community health education, community-based clinical services (such as free clinics and screenings), support groups, self-help programs, medication subsidies and health care support services (such as Lifeline Installations). 8,734 $ 458,001
Health Professions Education – Hospital clinical and non-clinical student mentoring for internships, graduate projects, clinical rotations and pre-med rotations. Mission Driven Health Care Services – Mission driven health services are services provided to the community that: 1) the hospital undertakes as a direct result of its community ir mission driven initiatives; or 2) would otherwise not be provided in the community if the hospital did not perform these services (e.g., services lines that accrue financial loses and the Adult Day Services program).  8,617 $ 3,374,913
Research – Includes clinical and community health research, as well as studies of health care delivery. Research must be generalizable, shared with the public and funded by either a governmental entity or by the hospital.  9 $ 421

Community Building Activities – Community-building activities include cash, in-kind donations, and budgeted expenditures for the development of community health programs and partnerships. These activities/initiatives often target environmental strategies, economic development and leadership, advocacy and support that could indirectly affect the health of the community. Cecil County Community Health Surveys

Health surveys are conducted by Cecil County Health Department to create a comprehensive health profile of Cecil County every 5 years.  Data from these surveys are used to develop programs that address priority health problems in the community, specifically targeting educational programs and community interventions.
